The Mocajo Estate’s History In 1938, an honored and wealthy industrialist, Giovanni Perucchetti, purchased two adjacent Tuscan farms, Mocajo and Ligia, on nearly 1,600 hectares of cultivated fields and mediterranean woodlands. He revolutionized and modernized these poor share cropped farms: building new homes and a mill, introducing the latest farming equipment and breeding the renowned Tuscan “chianina” cows. He also brought electricity, schools and medical facilities available for the share croppers and their families. His philanthropic legacy and works are still visible today. In 1957, the farm evolved into a directly managed enterprise and in the 90’s, the Borghi family, linked by marriage to the Perucchettis, became the owner of the entire Estate. The union of the families has guaranteed the continuity and progress of Tenuta Mocajo which now has a renowned winery, and an evocative and welcoming “agriturismo”, with restaurant and hotel facilities.
